Encouraging our young people to express their ideas, opinions, and aspirations helps shape a positive and inclusive school community. When students feel heard, they gain confidence, take ownership of their learning, and become active participants in creating a better future for themselves and others.

Pupil Voice

Promoting and Valuing Pupil Voice at Sun Hill Junior School

At Sun Hill Junior School, we believe that every child's voice is vital to our school community. We are dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment where children feel empowered to express their thoughts, opinions, and ideas. By actively listening to our children, we cultivate a culture of respect, responsibility, and collaboration.

What is Pupil Voice?

Pupil Voice refers to the ways in which children can express their views and influence decisions within the school. We understand that children have unique perspectives that can enhance our school community. By valuing their input, we aim to enrich their learning experiences and overall well-being.

Our Pupil Voice Groups

To ensure that our children’s voices are heard, we have established several dedicated Pupil Voice Groups. Each group focuses on different aspects of school life and provides children with opportunities to take on leadership roles. Our Pupil Voice Groups include:

  • House Captains: Leading their houses in various competitions and activities, promoting teamwork and school spirit.

  • School Council: Representing their peers and discussing important issues, helping to shape school policies and initiatives.

  • Well-being Ambassadors: Advocating for mental health and well-being, providing support and resources to promote a positive school environment.

  • Eco Group: Leading initiatives to promote sustainability and environmental awareness within the school and the wider community.

  • Fundraising Group: Organising events to raise money for charitable causes, fostering a sense of community and social responsibility.

  • Junior Road Safety Officers: Promoting road safety awareness and encouraging safe travel to and from school.

  • Cyber Ambassadors: Educating peers about online safety and responsible use of technology.

  • EARA Groups (Equality, Anti-Racism, and Awareness): Promoting inclusivity and understanding of diverse cultures and backgrounds.

  • Health & Safety Champions: Ensuring that health and safety practises are followed and raising awareness about safety in school.

  • Sport Leaders: Encouraging participation in sports and physical activities, promoting a healthy lifestyle.

How We Listen to Our Children

In addition to our Pupil Voice Groups, we implement various strategies to ensure that all children can share their views:

  • Surveys and Questionnaires: Regularly conducting surveys to gather feedback on different aspects of school life.

  • Class Discussions: Encouraging open discussions in classrooms where children can voice their opinions and contribute to collective decision-making.

  • Regular Meetings: Holding meetings with the Pupil Voice Groups to discuss ongoing initiatives and gather input from their peers.

Our Commitment

At Sun Hill Junior School, we are dedicated to nurturing a safe and supportive environment where every child feels valued and heard. By promoting Pupil Voice, we empower our children to take an active role in shaping their educational journey and the school community as a whole.

Together, we can make a difference!
